artist statement

everyday-moments and atmosphere is something i explore and strive to recreate in my work. with a deep interest of the human form, with the portrait in focus, i wish to create intimate stories trough poetic reflections. my work varies from immidiate linedrawings to naturalistic pieces - often on the expressive side.

i work primaly in oil, watercolour and pastels, and i often translate own work to embroideries. This translation i refer to as “a game of Chinese whispers”.

My embroideries I see as paintings with thread, and the painterly aspect is emphasised by using linen canvas as my fabric. I enjoy the tactility of working hands-on on my pieces. Sometimes I also add needle felting to the embroideries, or needle felted objects on their own.

I have always tried to go deeper, behind the surface in my portraits. I have Tried to reveal what lies behind the obvious. in my embroideries i am able to access both sides of the work and this is something I explore. My embroideries have two, equal sides, not a front- and backside.

the slow process invites me to deeper reflections over my work and adds a meditative quality to the creation. I must befriend my materials to create the cooperation i need to develop my work.
