Nordnorsken24

I am excited to be a part of an annual, regional group exhibition for the Northern part of Norway! The exhibition opened in Bodø the 27th of January and will move around to various art galleries. Right now it is showing in Mo i Rana at Rana Art Association.

My work is a textile painting called “My Struggle, silenced” from 2017. This work has previously been shown at Høstutstillingen (the Norwegian fall exhibition) in 2018.

//

Plans sometimes has to change, and so was the case with my “50 shades of skin”. I overworked the textile painting and had no chance of finishing it before the exhibition. Hundreds of working hours spent in a piece that for now will remain, unfinished, in my studio. A new version will start soon and I can’t wait to begin - the motif still excites me! And hopefully I learnt something during my previous attempt :-)

A work in process of the many variations of skin colour. Left is a soft pastel, right is the textile translation.

Xmas exhibition at Rogaland Kunstsenter / Juleutstilling ved Rogaland Kunstsenter

I am looking forward to take part in the x-mas exhibition at Rogaland Kunstsenter this year! We are 72 local artists participating. A perfect opportunity to find the really special gift for the holiday!

“Lend me an ear” / “Lån meg et øre”

“Lend me an ear” is a new series of sculptural textile works. The start of the serie will be shown at the X-mas exhibition at Rogaland Kunstsenter. It will consist of 5 framed, needle-felted ears mounted on linen canvas.

In our increasingly unstable world where we are moving away from our extended family many of us experience loneliness. It is no longer a given to have a confident, someone to share our big moments and griefs with.

With this series, I want to offer a constant listening ear to the viewer.

Our ears are so unique they can identify a person, just like our DNA and fingerprints.

20 + 1 - a solo exhibition in Salongen Visningsrom, Stavanger

Exhibition view

2+0+1+2+0+2+0+2+1+2+1+2+0+1+2+0+2+1 = 21

The number 21 can be associated with a tarot card named “The World”. Unity and wholeness are amongst the symbolic meaning of this card. The number 21 can also be read as 2+1=3 - where the number 3 stands for the holy trinity, or past, presence and future.

«20 + 1» are 21 pencil drawings in the format of 20x20 cm. All drawings are drawn on Fabriano paper and mounted in a frame, painted directly on the wall, with the dimensions 21x21 cm. Opening date for the exhibition is 20.01.2021.

The work is based on traces of coffee from 21 coffee cups. Abstract traces of what has been, or can be symbolic of what to come. Fortune-telling from coffee grounds or tea leaves is an old tradition from Asia, Middle East and the Ancient Greece. The method is referred to as Tasseography.

The drawings have been meditation excercises where each drawing is a complete universe, created within its own borders. At the same time they are a reflection over the past year and the time we are living in. Twenty drawings from 2020 and one from 2021 where the mind has been circling around questions like; can a community be governed by tasseography, or numerology? Or is it possible for us to find our inner source and with increased awareness and total presence make external dogmas redundant?

Notice the coffee bean under the drawing - the red dot signalising a sold artwork has been replaced with coffee beans!
